3 Water Heater Problems You Need a Technician to Fix

When a water heater runs into a problem, it might be better to replace the system instead of repairing it. Many hot water heaters are designed to be replaced after a decade, and if yours is nearing that age, problems will be far more frequent. Repairs will not do much at this point, other than delay the inevitable for just a little while longer.

That said, not all hot water issues are signs that the system needs replacing. Some problems simply point out that there is a problem in the system that needs a quick fix. However, some of these issues can still be quite complicated, requiring professional attention. For that reason, we have created this list of common hot water heater issues a technician needs to address:

1. Water leaks

Water should not leak from a water heater, and if it does, you have a problem. Some water leaks occur at the top of the tank, caused by loose pipes, damaged pressure valves, and the like. On the other hand, water leaks at the bottom of the tank can mean condensation or pressure issues. Either way, a technician is required to identify the cause and repair the problem.

2. Lack of hot water

A hot water heater should be pumping out hot water. Before you call a technician, however, there are a few things you can do. You can check if the power source is pumping out power. If it is working, then the heating element itself might need repair, which needs a technician. If there is hot water but not enough of it, the thermostat might be at fault. You will need to raise the temperature because you might be using more hot water than the system can heat up.

3. Out-of-place noises

A water heater will generally generate noise in operation. This is the sound you will get acquainted with and is a good way to tell whether the water heater is working or not. That said, if weird noises you have never heard before are coming from the heater, there may be a problem. If there is no out-of-place sound, but the water heater is louder than normal, that is still a sign that an issue is developing. Do not wait to call a technician to come and identify the issue. Otherwise, the problem will get worse and end up costing more to fix.

Conclusion

There are a few other problems that indicate the need for a technician. For instance, low water pressure, slow heating time, and similar issues require an expert onsite to analyze the cause and perform the necessary repairs. You can certainly try and tackle these problems yourself. More often than not, only a professional will be able to put in a long-lasting fix and carry out a complete analysis of the system to prevent any other issues.
